On February 23, Member LAFCOs took action.
At the Special Business Meeting, members voted 40–2 to approve a Bylaws amendment that eliminates Board “seat type” categories and allows Executive Officers to serve as voting members of the CALAFCO Board of Directors.
Beginning with the October 2026 Board election cycle, Executive Officers may run for and serve as voting Board members. This change reflects the feedback many of you provided during the governance review.
The amendment is targeted and straightforward. It does not alter regional boundaries, the number of regions, or member dues.
Over the past year, we committed to a thoughtful, transparent review of our governance. This vote reflects clear agreement on this issue and underscores the value of member participation in shaping CALAFCO’s direction.
Governance modernization work will continue, and we will dedicate time at the May Staff Workshop to broader regional and structural discussions. As always, future proposals will be presented with full transparency and opportunities for input.
Thank you to everyone who engaged in this process and took the time to vote. CALAFCO works best when members share ideas, ask questions, and help guide our path forward.
